The service

What it is.

The product carbon footprint (CFP) quantifies GHG emissions across the entire life cycle of a product or service. ISO 14067 sets the principles, requirements and guidelines for that quantification, building on ISO 14044 (LCA).

The study can be cradle-to-gate (from extraction to the factory gate) or cradle-to-grave (including distribution, use and end of life). The choice depends on the goal: CBAM requires production emissions, while EPDs and environmental labeling call for the full life cycle.

Mangue Tech runs the full study: defining scope and functional unit, collecting primary process data, filling gaps with secondary databases (ecoinvent, GaBi) and producing the technical report ready for verification.

What is the difference between cradle-to-gate and cradle-to-grave?

Cradle-to-gate runs from raw material extraction to the factory gate. Cradle-to-grave also includes distribution, use and end of life. The choice depends on the goal: CBAM, the European Union's carbon border adjustment mechanism, asks for production emissions; EPDs (environmental product declarations) and environmental labeling call for the full life cycle.

Do I need data from every supplier?

No. Mangue Tech collects primary data from the processes in your operation and fills the gaps with recognized secondary databases, such as ecoinvent and GaBi. The scope and functional unit, defined at the start of the study, determine which data needs to be gathered.

Does the study meet the CBAM requirement?

It does when the boundary is production emissions. CBAM, the European Union's carbon border adjustment mechanism, applies to in-scope products entering the bloc and asks for production emissions, not the full life cycle. A cradle-to-gate study covers that boundary.

Does Mangue certify or verify the product footprint?

No. Mangue Tech runs the study under ISO 14067 and ISO 14040/14044 and delivers the technical report ready for verification. Verification and the opinion come from an external body, such as Bureau Veritas, SGS, DNV or TÜV. The study does not measure the whole organization: its boundary is the product or service analyzed.

How long does an LCA study take?

It depends on the scope and on how mature the data is. A cradle-to-gate LCA (life cycle assessment), from extraction to the factory gate, is shorter than a cradle-to-grave study, which also covers distribution, use and end of life. The timeline is set together with the scope and the functional unit.
