What it is, and why it matters.

ISO 14067 specifies principles, requirements and guidelines for quantifying the carbon footprint of products (CFP). Based on ISO 14044 (LCA), it covers only GHG emissions and removals across the life cycle.

The standard covers everything from cradle-to-gate (extraction to the factory gate) to cradle-to-grave (including use and end of life). It sets the rules for allocation, primary vs. secondary data and how results are communicated.

The CFP is increasingly required by European buyers (CBAM and the coming digital product passport), environmental labeling programs and public tenders with sustainability criteria.
