ISO 14068: carbon neutrality that holds up in an audit
International standard for declaring and verifying carbon neutrality. It sets the measure → reduce → offset hierarchy and separates real carbon neutrality from greenwashing.

The framework
What it is, and why it matters.
ISO 14068-1 is the international standard that sets principles, requirements and guidelines for carbon neutrality claims by organizations, products and events. Published in 2023, it replaces PAS 2060 as the global reference.
The standard is categorical about the hierarchy: a neutrality claim is only valid once the emitter (i) has a verifiable inventory, (ii) has a long-term reduction plan consistent with 1.5 °C, and (iii) offsets only the residual with high-integrity credits.
Unlike marketing claims, ISO 14068 requires verification by an accredited third party (aligned with ISO 14064-3), a traceable chain of custody for the credits used and public disclosure of the assumptions. It is the standard that separates defensible carbon neutrality from an empty claim.
At scale
When the standard updates, the calculation engine is already up to date.
supported frameworks
GHG Protocol, CSRD, IFRS S2, CDP, GRI, SASB, CBAM, SBCE. One single database.
emission factors
IPCC, DEFRA, MCTI, EPA, Ecoinvent. All versioned, with source, year and gas.
scopes covered
Scopes 1, 2, 3 and biogenic. Operational and financial. Everything goes in.
Aplicabilidade
Who it applies to.
- Companies that want to publicly declare carbon neutral for a product, an operation or an event. And back the claim if challenged.
- Brands exposed to anti-greenwashing regulation (the Green Claims Directive in the EU, CONAR in Brazil).
- Organizations already operating under ISO 14064-1 that want the next step: a formal neutrality claim.
- Events certified under ISO 20121 that want to add a quantitative neutrality claim.
How we deliver
From source to auditor.
We validate the GHG inventory under ISO 14064-1 and identify the gaps against the ISO 14068 transparency requirements.
We structure the long-term reduction plan (aligned with SBTi or a 1.5 °C scenario) and document the mitigation hierarchy.
We oversee the offsetting with high-integrity credits (Verra, CCB) through Carbonext, ensuring an auditable chain of custody up to retirement in the public registry.
